What is Support at Home?

After an aged care assessment, you're given a classification from Level 1 to Level 8, each with a quarterly budget. Your provider uses the budget to deliver services, and you pay a contribution towards some of them.

"Grandfathered" means you had, or were approved for, a Home Care Package on 12 September 2024. Part pensioners get personal rates from Services Australia based on an income and assets assessment. Clinical care, such as nursing and physiotherapy, is fully funded for everyone. There's a lifetime cap of $130,000 (indexed) on contributions across Support at Home and residential aged care.

This calculator is an estimate. Your provider sets its prices, and Services Australia confirms your contribution rates.

Frequently asked questions

How much will I pay for Support at Home as a full pensioner?

Nothing for clinical care, 5% of the cost of independence services such as personal care, and 17.5% of everyday living services such as cleaning. On $2,800 of independence and $2,000 of everyday living services a quarter, that's $490 a quarter.

What happens to unspent funds?

You can carry forward unspent funds of up to $1,000 or 10% of your quarterly budget, whichever is higher, into the next quarter.

I was on a Home Care Package. Do I pay more now?

If you had or were approved for a package on 12 September 2024, you're protected under the 'no worse off' rules and pay lower contributions, shown in the table above.
