Income tax rates for Australian residents

The lowest rate fell from 16% to 15% on 1 July 2026, and is due to fall to 14% from 1 July 2027. The 2% Medicare levy is charged on top.

Low income tax offset

Up to $700 for taxable incomes up to $37,500, reducing by 5c for each $1 above that to $45,000, then by 1.5c for each $1 above $45,000 until it runs out at $66,667.

Medicare levy surcharge

Charged if you don't have appropriate private hospital cover and your income for surcharge purposes is above the threshold.
